Midsummer

I would be lying if I didn’t share that Midsummer is one of my favorite days of the year. My family is from the beautiful northern country of Sweden, from the island of Gotland. The word solstice means ‘sun stands still”. The sun is at it’s zenith and is the longest day of the year. In the far reaching sunny north of the planet, the sun stays up for 24 hours a day. This is where the term ‘white nights’ come from. Both before and after the solstice the sun appears to stand still in the sky.

The seeds of intention that we set at the Winter Solstice, the darkest time of the year, should now be fully in place.

This is my first time being back in Sweden for the Summer Solstice and all it’s celebrations since the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m looking forward to spending a great deal of time in nature, i.e. swimming in the sea, running through fields of wildflowers, eating white cake with strawberries on top, taking a song walk, having barbecues, and enjoying the never ending days of summer with family, and friends.

I’m inviting you at this time to stand back and take a moment to be still and celebrate the wonders of nature and all that you have accomplished since the Winter solstice. It’s ok if your intentions haven’t fully come into completion. The intention is perfect as it is and will unfold in it’s own time.

With the knowing that this is the longest day of the year, it also means that now we are working our way to the shortest day of the year in December. From here on out the days grow shorter. With this awareness, I offer an invitation to let go of time and fully celebrate the present moment. Let’s give gratitude for everything in our lives that bring us joy.

For this special day, I’ve created a short crystal bowl sound meditation for you. Wishing you a beautiful Summer Solstice.
